Polytetraflouroethylene (TFE) and PVDF are both on allocation.
Teflon product PTFE (TFE) along with PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide demand for this mineral has increased significantly, along with the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used throughout a good deal of applications from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for home use. This mineral is actually the critical raw materials inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This increase in demand joined together with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double throughout the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to stay in affect in the near future.
